Publishing Assistant
Karnac Books celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2025. It is the world’s leading independent bookseller and publisher in mental health titles for professionals. In 2023, it merged with Phoenix Publishing House, joint winner of the 2023 IPG Newcomer Award. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated person to work across all aspects of the publishing process. The job will be varied and will involve working closely with the publishing director and the rest of the Karnac team. Tasks include, but are not limited to, preparing and posting social media content, keeping our book systems up to date, email marketing, writing marketing copy, co-ordinating book reviews, author liaison, and bookselling. The perfect first job in publishing, it will provide excellent insight and experience into the publishing world. Full training will be provided and the ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:
A degree
Some experience in an office environment
An excellent standard of written English with a close attention to detail
Strong organisational and communication skills
Good interpersonal skills
Experience of using social media
Strong IT skills to enable working with various systems and applications
A self-starter attitude with the ability to meet deadlines and multi-task
A passion for the publishing industry
Previous experience in publishing and some knowledge of the mental health field is an advantage but not essential
